Pixel is a laser treatment.  It uses a laser called Erbium:YAG.  The laser works by scanning over the aged or scarred skin, removing zones in the epidermis and upper dermis in a microscopic gridlike pattern.  New skin grows up from those zones, collagen remodels, and with repeated treatments, this skin is renewed, smoothed, and tightened.  A treatment series of four to six sessions provides optimal results.

The Pixel laser is an excellent treatment for fine lines and wrinkles.  The laser can improve the overall texture and tone of the skin, and is an effective treatment for depressed scars, particularly those caused by acne.  Most people can expect to find a 50-80% improvement in these conditions.

Treatments themselves are painless with most describing a warm prickle sensation during the session.  No freezing is necessary for the treatment.  A mild sunburn sensation may be felt after treatment but by the next day, 95% of people feel normal.  The skin takes on an appearance of a mild sunburn for one to two days, then will undergo some peeling and flaking later that week as this skin reorganizes and replaces the old tissue.  Cleansing and the use of moisture cream will minimize the appearance of flaking and make up can be worn the day after treatment.  Like all laser treatments, tanning should be avoided three weeks before and after treatment.  Early results can be seen about one week after treatment.  Treatment sessions are generally scheduled about two to four weeks apart.
